What Do You Need to Resurrect?

The significance of Easter is Jesus Christ's triumph over death. His resurrection means the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him is real. The resurrection of Jesus Christ from death is the core of the Christian gospel. So much is happening in the world today that it is very easy to forget the significance of one of the most important celebrations in the Christian calendar. Jesus died on Good Friday, but as promised, he rose early Sunday morning. Because Christ died and rose again gives us hope when things feel hopeless. Now more than ever we all could use more hope in our lives. The Resurrection does not just give us hope, it also gives us joy. This joy comes from knowing that Jesus has won the victory over sin and death and has given his own life for us. Jesus rose from the grave. What is the grave in your life that keeps you dead and not living up to your potential? As we celebrate this Easter what do you need to resurrect in your life to be hopeful amidst the foes and woes of this world?

According to Merriam-Webster, resurrection is an instance of coming back into use or importance; a rising again, as from death. Easter is also a time that represents renewal. We are ready to come out from under the covers, open the curtains and let sunlight into our hearts and minds. Many of us take this time to do what is referred to as spring cleaning, and we clean our closets, garages, and basements disposing of things we no longer need, want, or use. Clutter does not only come in the form of material things. We also have clutter in our minds, these are feelings and thoughts that have convinced us to quit, give up, or settle for something other than our best. During this season it would be a good idea to look at what is right in front of us and see if we can eliminate or clean up some of the material and mental clutter in our lives as well. And resurrect a new way of thinking and believing.

Living a resurrected life means leaving your past dead and buried and living a new life. This new life you are beginning must start with setting aside your pride, fear, and doubt. Your mental spring cleaning should consist of taking personal inventory. While taking this internal inventory there are several categories we should consider. The ones that I think are most important are relationships. Are there relationships in your life that you have allowed to die on the vine that might just need a little pruning to blossom once again? Are there dreams that you once believed in that someone convinced you were impossible to achieve? Remember, dreams do not die, someone usually kills them and some of the best dream killers can be our family or friends. Now is not the time to give up and take a seat, now is the time to dig deeper and take a stand. Stand up for yourself and begin to resurrect the act and action of believing in yourself. God wants you to take off those grave clothes and clothe yourself with a positive attitude, a renewed mindset, a determination not to fail and the strength to walk away from bad friends and bad habits. There is nothing you and God cannot do today or tomorrow.
